A NOTE BEFORE I SHARE THIS
I’m not telling you this as a blueprint to copy. What worked for me in 2010 or 2014 or 2016 would not land the same way in 2026 – the market was different, the online coaching and consulting industry was brand new, podcasts were a new format, social media was still in a growth window. The specific tactics aren’t the point.
I’m sharing it because it illustrates a principle that hasn’t changed: at some point, you stop testing everything and start drilling down on the few things that already work. That part is timeless. What those few things are for you – that’s going to be different from what they were for me, and that’s why I do a Strategy Review with every single new member.
When I first got started in 2008, I experimented with everything. I blogged. I spent hours trying to figure out SEO. I ran telesummits back when that was the thing. I tested every marketing tactic I could find.
Then I noticed something: the clients who actually paid me weren’t coming from SEO or blog posts. They were coming from podcast interviews – thirty to sixty minutes of someone’s full attention, where I could actually teach, show my thinking, and build trust. So I went all in on ONE core attract strategy.
In 2014, I launched a free challenge called Fired Up & Focused. It worked so well I turned it into a podcast series – 22 episodes. Then I pulled the transcripts and turned them into my first book. One piece of content. Three assets. All pointing to the same place.
The podcast became Uncomplicate Your Business, then in 2020 it became Promote Yourself to CEO – same show, same host, just refined over a decade.
My signature offer during that entire period was Sweet Spot Strategy – one twelve-week group coaching program I ran for ten years, from 2010 to 2019. In 2020, I retired it and launched The CEO Collective®, because I wanted to work closer with my clients.
